Where Art Meets Community

The Arden J. Stephens Foundation Inc. generously awarded Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund a grant to give 36 children in Pulaski County the chance to attend summer camps for free. From theater to visual arts, these young creators spent their break diving into hands-on experiences designed to encourage creativity, self-expression, and skill development.

“Niles had an amazing time at art camp and did not want it to end. Niles said camp was one of the best experiences he had ever had, and he would love to go again. He also wanted to thank all of the teachers and helpers for everything they did, especially for encouraging him to step outside of his comfort zone and speak in front of a crowd.”

— Paris, Psychology major, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

“Aria absolutely loved camp! Everything that they did at this camp helped them grow creatively and positively impacted their cognitive, social, and academic skills. She said her favorite part was creating clay sculptures, but my favorite part was seeing her glow when she talked about the friends she made, the fun she had, and all the new hobbies she learned.”

— Kristy, Education major, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

“I am so thankful that my daughter was selected for the Windgate Art School summer camp. Her favorite part was going outside to create art from nature. The ASPSF has opened some awesome doors for us hard-working parents.”

— Katherine, General studies major, University of Arkansas–Pulaski Technical College

“Just look at those smiling faces! Their excitement has been contagious. I have artwork filling my home that I plan to frame and keep for years to come. More importantly, I have watched my children grow in confidence, creativity, and curiosity.”

— Winshella, Nursing major, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

“Beyond my academic journey, the scholarship has enriched my children’s lives in countless ways. We’ve been able to enjoy museum memberships, explore various art museums, and even participate in exciting opportunities like Camp Innovation Hub. These experiences, which would have been out of reach financially, have sparked their curiosity, broadened their horizons, and created lasting memories. Seeing their joy and engagement in these activities fills me with immense gratitude.”

— Julie, Social Work major, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

“Thank you so much for allowing my kids to attend the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. They were so excited to come back another year. My kids will never forget this summer. My daughter has now discovered that her passion is theater.”

— Sarah, Nursing major, Philander Smith College

“My daughter had such a good time. She enjoyed making different clay sculptures as well as participating in both plays. Her favorite thing was singing in the performance. Now she wants to take part in community theater and is considering going to college for theater or something in the arts.”
