February Volunteer of the Month: Kay Johns of Logan County
For more than a decade, Kay Johns has been a steady and passionate advocate for single parents in Logan County. A longtime educator and community leader, Kay’s commitment to education extends far beyond the classroom.
Recognizing her commitment to the mission, Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) has named her the February 2026 Volunteer of the Month.
“Kay Johns has been a pillar of ASPSF in Logan County for many years,” Region 8 Program Manager Christi Brown said. “Her experience and knowledge as a volunteer was invaluable to me as a new program manager. Kay is always at the ready to chip in to help. Her continued support of ASPSF contributes to the success of students in Region 8.”
Kay’s dedication speaks for itself. Below, Kay shares why volunteering with ASPSF means so much to her and the impact she hopes to make in her community.
Hi everyone, Kay Johns here! I’ve lived in Logan County for most of my life and call Caulksville home. I’ve been teaching for 34 years — 21 of those right here at County Line Elementary — and my passion for education led me to become a dyslexia practitioner.
For over a decade, I have been a proud supporter of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship
Fund (ASPSF). I truly believe in the philosophy: ‘Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day; teach
him how to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.’
As a volunteer, I’ve had the privilege of organizing golf tournaments and banquets, interviewing
applicants, and hosting informational booths at local fairs. I believe ASPSF provides the vital support recipients need to break the cycle of poverty through higher education.

Kay’s commitment to education doesn’t stop when the school day ends, it extends into her community and into the lives of single parents working to create better futures for their families.
Volunteers like Kay are the reason single parents in Region 8 have the encouragement, resources, and community support they need to succeed. We are deeply grateful for her many years of dedication and the lasting impact she continues to make in Logan County.
