What do you love about your job?
I get to be a problem solver every single day. Being a litigation attorney affords me a unique opportunity to find a solution to resolve disputes through creativity and compromise, both with individuals and businesses. This forces me to learn something new every day, whether about what motivates people or how different industries work. I am constantly challenged.

What do you love about the ASPSF mission?
I love that we instill in students that they are capable of changing their own lives. We don’t do the hard work. They do. We simply give them tools to focus on the work by helping to alleviate the crushing mental burden of poverty and providing wraparound services that instill confidence for post-education life. Wraparound services include workshops on life skills that can further alleviate financial pressures, like how to handle basic car maintenance or apply for a mortgage.
How did you find out about ASPSF?
I was familiar with similar organizations as I was a single (teen) parent throughout college and law school. When I was more established in my career, I made an effort to get involved so that I could contribute my time, talents, and funds to help others who were preparing to walk the same path.

Share a favorite moment with ASPSF:
I really enjoy the mission moment we have at each board meeting. We hear a story about a scholarship recipient each time we meet in order to remember why we do what we do. I am so inspired by stories of how these single parents navigated difficult past and present situations to change the trajectory of their lives. It is important to remember the great impact that a relatively small amount of money can have in impoverished households.
Fun fact about yourself?
If I wasn’t a lawyer, I would be a travel agent. I live to see the world with my family. I do an incredible amount of research for every trip I take so that it is planned like a professional.
What three words best describe you?
Hard working. Honest. Genuine.
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
I have raised two wonderful boys while also enjoying a career I love. While balance is hard, I endeavored to set a good example of how to find both personal and professional achievement without sacrificing too much (hopefully) on either side.

Best advice you ever received?
As a young associate, we received a paper weight with a quote from Vince Foster that says, “Practice law with excellence, with pride in your product. Treat every pleading, every brief, every contract, every letter, every daily task as if your career will be judged on it.” This is bigger than the law. To me, this means that one should be honest and put your best effort into everything you do, regardless of the size of the task or who is watching.
Do you have a book recommendation?
I love a good autobiography. It helps me to understand what makes successful people “tick.” I just finished “Fahrenheit-182” about the lead singer of Blink 182. It is quite fascinating to see a kid from a dysfunctional, broken home channel that trauma into a creative outlet with incredible success.
Do you have any hobbies?
Scuba diving, playing pickleball, and traveling every chance I get.

Anything else you want to share?
