ASPSF June 2026 Volunteer of the Month: Andrea Franklin of Pulaski County

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) is proud to recognize Andrea Franklin of Pulaski County as our June 2026 Volunteer of the Month. For the past five years, Andrea has generously dedicated her time, energy, and encouragement to supporting single parents as they pursue higher education and brighter futures for their families.

Andrea, a Sherwood resident, proud mother to one adult son, and owner of Hashtag Cute Items, has built her business around more than fashion and accessories. Through her work as a seller, reseller, and consignor of new and gently loved clothing items, she also partners with local organizations and school districts to teach etiquette, life skills, and interview preparation — skills that empower individuals both personally and professionally.

Andrea first became interested after attending an ASPSF event years ago. Inspired by the mission and impact she witnessed, she knew she wanted to become involved.

“I became a volunteer for this worthwhile organization to empower, uplift, and motivate single parents to accomplish their goals… no matter what obstacles may have been dealt!” Andrea said.

Since then, Andrea has become a familiar and dependable face within Pulaski County, helping with application reviews, Family Fun Night, outreach efforts, and scholarship award ceremonies. While many volunteers may gravitate toward one specific role, Andrea says she truly enjoys every opportunity to serve.

“I honestly don’t have a favorite,” she said. “I enjoy them all!”

For Andrea, some of the most meaningful moments come from seeing the determination and success of ASPSF recipients firsthand.

“There are so many bittersweet moments I could share!” she said. “In reviewing applications this week [for Summer 2026 scholarships], it has been inspiring to see courses and grades submitted by applicants. These young ladies and gentlemen are KILLING their courses, and the degrees they are working towards are outstanding.

“The feeling of being in the midst of future nurses, culinary students, business leaders, and owners on their way to the TOP is surreal,” she said. “They have blessed and encouraged ME along THEIR journey.”

As someone who understands the importance of encouragement and support, Andrea says volunteering with ASPSF holds deep personal meaning.

“I give my time because the organization makes it SO easy and accessible for my busy schedule, but I was also a single parent, so I understand the joy of someone believing in my future.”

She also credits the welcoming atmosphere created by ASPSF staff and volunteers as one of the reasons she loves being involved.

“The staff creates such a warming invitation, environment, training, and inclusion in all capacities of the organization,” Andrea said. “I also love seeing recipients meet their education goals. It is a feeling like no other!”

Volunteers like Andrea are at the heart of ASPSF’s mission. Through her encouragement, compassion, and commitment to uplifting others, she is helping single parents across Arkansas feel seen, supported, and empowered to keep going.

Thank you, Andrea, for the countless ways you continue to inspire and invest in the futures of Arkansas families.
