Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) will host its second-annual Day of Giving on Friday, March 20.

Held in honor of National Single Parent Day, ASPSF Day of Giving aims to raise $45,000 to fund 28 full-time scholarships, helping single parents continue their education while supporting their families.

ASPSF will celebrate single parents on March 20 in Jonesboro from 6-8 p.m. at Native Brew Works, 515 S. Gee St. The brewery will donate 10% of sales, and guests can make additional gifts during their meal. All contributions are tax-deductible and will support students living and studying in Northeast Arkansas and throughout the state.

To mark the occasion, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver will officially proclaim March 20 as ASPSF Day of Giving with a short ceremony at 11 a.m. on March 18, at City Hall, Mayor’s office, 300 S. Church St., 1st Floor.

“We are so thankful to the Jonesboro community for supporting single parents and the efforts of Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund to help them succeed in completing their educations,” said Shaila Creekmore, ASPSF Development Officer, Strategic Partnerships. “Knowing their community is also behind them is a huge boost to these single parents working hard every day to create a better life for their family.”

STATEWIDE SUPPORT FOR SINGLE PARENTS
In addition to Jonesboro, other cities and counties are proclaiming March 20 as ASPSF Day of Giving, including Conway, Fort Smith, Harrison, Jacksonville, Johnson County, Little Rock, Maumelle, North Little Rock, Sheridan, and Sherwood.

The statewide celebration aims to bring awareness to the approximately 132,000 single parents raising the next generation in Arkansas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 33% of single parents in the state live below the poverty line, compared to just 7% of married parents.

ASPSF works to address these disparities by providing flexible scholarships and wraparound support services that help single parents persist through college and complete their degrees so they can pursue a professional career with family-supporting wages.

Throughout the day on March 20, Arkansans are encouraged to participate virtually by donating at aspsfday.org or engaging with ASPSF’s Single Parent Juggling Challenge, a social media campaign inviting participants to share videos of themselves juggling as a symbol of the many responsibilities single parents manage each day.
