Painting Brighter Futures

Nearly 30 children in Pulaski County attended art camp at no cost thanks to the Arden J. Stephens Foundation. Plus, their families received back-to-school items!

“My son had an unforgettable experience at the art camp held at the museum. He immersed himself in creativity, crafting colorful puppets, vibrant rainbows, and intricate clay pieces that showcased his imagination. Each day was filled with laughter and joy as he explored different art forms. One of the highlights was seeing the impressive big statue at the museum, which left him in awe. He came home every day buzzing with excitement, eager to share his artistic adventures.”

“Jonas states he was so happy and excited for camp. He loved meeting new friends and creating a play from scratch. He was also so proud to create a fun Robot. Jori was excited for camp and really enjoyed being able to into her creative side. She loves to create and make things so she felt very seen while being able to show off one of her many talents.

Thanks to your generous support, my daughters, Gabbi (10) and Sofiya (8), were able to attend art camp. Your investment has opened a world of creativity and confidence for them.

“Gabbi spent one morning completely absorbed in sculpting her whimsical ‘Mimicir’ box. She tells everyone it’s a creature that ‘mimics your heart’s truest color,’ and she proudly demonstrates how its little lid snaps shut like a secret heart. Sofiya, with her love of flowers, wove yarn and paper blossoms into a vibrant decorative tray she’s declared her new ‘garden canvas.’ One of the camp’s most magical moments was their ocean-themed play. Watching them deliver lines they’d memorized, the clarity in Gabbi’s voice when she spoke of ocean currents, Sofiya’s giggle echoing through the amphitheater, filled me with pride.

“Beyond the artistic skills and environmental passion they discovered, camp gave me precious time to focus on my full-time work and bachelor’s studies in psychology and sociology. Arriving home each afternoon to hugs, paint-smudged shirts, and excited stories of new techniques was the sweetest reward.

“My child had a very good time at camp. He attended two sessions for a week. The first day he was nervous, but when I came to visit him at lunch he told me he had made new friends and would be okay. The second day, as I walked him in, all the teachers knew his name. They stated he was a smart, funny kid that was eager to learn. Each day, he came home with different work he had completed and stories about what he had done that day. This was a great experience for my child because he is very artistic already and loves experiencing new things. We appreciate the opportunity.”

I’m always thankful for the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’s program for my boys. It gives them something meaningful to do beyond just playing in circles — it engages their minds and creativity. Every day, they come home excited to show what they’ve made, and together we’ve built a little ‘arts museum’ in our home, framing and preserving their creations in memory boxes. We’ve been adding to it for two years now, and it’s become one of our favorite family traditions. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible — the volunteers, the workers, and all who nurture creative young minds. You’ve given my children more than just an activity; you’ve given them pride, joy, and inspiration. For that, I’m truly grateful.

Jeremy Roman and Elizabeth attended camp at the Museum of Fine Arts over the summer and had an amazing time. Jeremy says that his favorite thing was making his sword and playing make up. Elizabeth enjoyed making her self portrait and meeting new friends. Roman favorite thing was building the box house and making masks. They all said it was one of the best things they enjoyed doing this summer.

The children enjoyed the arts part of the camp. They brought home some projects they did. My oldest son loved working with the staff in the self-defense class.

My kids went to the summer camp at the library this summer, and they had a good experience. They got to be in front of different cultures and backgrounds. It was very different for them, but they enjoyed every moment. They will never forget this opportunity. Thank you from Essience and Brock.
