ASPSF provides on-going training opportunities to its Single Parent Scholarship affiliates through staff support and a bi-annual statewide Leadership Development Conference. We also offer smaller regional meetings to encourage partnership among neighboring affiliates, share best practices, and discuss regional challenges.

2009 AFFILIATE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

The 2009 Affiliate Leadership Development Conference coincides with ASPSF’s 20th Year of Service Celebration! The theme for the conference was "Poverty to Prosperity". More than one hundred attendees representing forty-one SPSF affiliate organizations were treated to extremely informative plenary sessions and workshops.

Student speakers gave truly inspiring testimonials. Guest keynote speakers, including Governor Mike Beebe and Dr. Sherece West of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, lauded affiliate board members for their great effort in helping students to succeed. In particular, both the Governor and Dr. West paid tribute to single parents who are trying so valiantly to earn a college degree, raise their children, hold down a job, and prepare themselves for a well-paying career.

Along with wonderful door prizes, five random drawings were made at the close of the conference for attending SPSF’s to win $1,000 scholarship awards. This year's winners were:

• The Peggy Beller Memorial Single Parent Scholarship Award - Independence County
• The Mike and Ginger Beebe Single Parent Scholarship Award - Craighead County
• The Lamar Anderson Memorial Scholarship Awards - White County and Monroe County
• The Bernice Jones Memorial Scholarship Award - Marion County
• The Marjorie Wolfe Single Parent Scholarship Award - Grant County
• The Ralph H. Nesson Single Parent Scholarship Award - Crittenden County

The Board and staff of ASPSF wish to thank everyone who attended and presented at the conference. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the 20th birthday of our organization and all the effort made by volunteers throughout Arkansas!
